Visiting Epic Universe — Universal Orlando’s newest theme park — can be an unforgettable experience for families with school-aged children. We visited from the UK in April 2026 over the Easter holidays as a group of 11, with kids aged 8, 9, and 10 years old. To make the most of your day and avoid common pitfalls, here’s a practical guide packed with tips, expectations, and planning advice.

This park works especially well as part of a broader Florida family holiday — whether you’re planning your first trip or a return visit. Before You Go: Planning Essentials

Know How Universal Tickets Work

Epic Universe is part of Universal Orlando Resort, and ticketing can be confusing for UK families. Before you buy, understand how multi‑park tickets, park‑to‑park access (needed for rides like Hogwarts Express), and which ticket types permit entrance to Epic Universe — see How Universal Orlando Park Tickets Work (What UK Families Should Know).

Decide How Many Days You Need

Although Epic Universe can be experienced in one full day, combining it with other parks lets you pace your trip. For guidance, see How Many Days Do You Need at Universal Orlando with Kids?.

We found one full day enough, we did 4 parks overall, but you do need the full day if you want to cover all the lands and even then do not expect to get on every big ride.

Don’t Forget Broader Trip Costs

A day at Epic Universe is fun, but it’s currently the most expensive park in terms of standalone ticket price (ranging from £120 - 170 ). We also found it slightly more expensive while in the park itself. For budgeting and whole‑trip planning, check: How Much Does 2 Weeks in Florida Cost for UK Families?

What Age Works Best?

Epic Universe is designed with families in mind, but some zones and rides are best enjoyed by certain age groups.

  • For broad appeal and interactive experiences, school‑aged kids (7–12) get the most from the day.

  • Older children and teens often love the more intense rides and immersive world‑building.

  • Younger children still enjoy character moments, shops, and gentler attractions.

Planning Your Day at Epic Universe

Epic Universe’s layout is built around a central hub (Celestial Park) with themed lands branching off — each with its own look, story, rides, and food. Navigating Epic Universe with kids works best when you plan ahead. Start by checking the park map and app for ride locations, show times, and character meet & greets. Divide the park into sections — like Super Nintendo World, and other themed lands — and tackle one area at a time to minimise walking and backtracking.

Below is an outline of the different worlds within the park:

  • Celestial Park – A mythological, garden‑like hub with rides like Stardust Racers and a constellation carousel. It’s a good introduction that isn’t tied to any specific franchise.

  • Super Nintendo World – One of the park’s most kid‑friendly areas. Characters like Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach are featured, along with interactive rides like Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and Mine‑Cart Madness. Interactive Power‑Up Bands (sold separately for $45 a pop) let children punch question blocks, collect coins, and unlock extra challenges, turning the land into a real‑world video game experience.

  • The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic – A new version of Wizarding World set in 1920s Paris, with the headline ride Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry and interactive wand experiences for spell casting.

  • How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk – A Viking‑themed world with rides such as Hiccup’s Wing Gliders and interactive experiences, plus dragon‑themed shops and play areas.

  • Dark Universe – A spooky, monster‑centric land featuring rides like Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and interactive character experiences.

These varied lands mean there’s something for different interests — from video‑game play in Super Nintendo World to magic in Wizarding World and dragons in Isle of Berk — which helps keep school‑aged kids engaged. It is a very different experience from Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

Ahead of your visit, set ride priorities with the kids so everyone knows which attractions are must-dos. Use the app for wait times and mobile ordering at restaurants.

Ride & Attraction Tips

Understand Height Restrictions

Epic Universe has a range of rides from gentle family attractions to bigger simulator and coaster experiences. Many popular rides have height requirements around 40″ (102 cm) or higher, so check early if you have a mix of ages.

Timing & Queues

Arrive Early. Even outside peak seasons, Epic Universe gets busy. Arriving before park open gives you a head start on popular rides before queues build up. The park opens at 9am, plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before to allow time for parking (which costs $35 a day) and to allow 5 – 10 minute walk to the park gates.

Expect Walking & Waiting

Epic Universe is large, and a day there involves a lot of walking and some waiting. Comfortable shoes, scheduled breaks, and snacks help keep energy up (especially for younger kids).

Food, Drink & Down Time

Budget for Food & Treats. Themed dining and snack options are fun, but expensive. Expect high prices for meals, ice creams, and drink souvenirs — an important consideration when planning your daily budget. As a reference point we paid $9.50 (around £7 for one ice cream).

Characters, Shops & Experiences

Don’t Miss Character Moments. Epic Universe’s themed lands include character meet‑and‑greets — especially in Super Nintendo World. These can be one of the most memorable parts of the visit, but they can have lines, so factor that into your schedule.

Interactive Souvenirs

Interactive merch such as Power‑Up Bands or wands (depending on zone) add another layer of engagement for kids — but also another cost. Decide ahead which experiences matter most. For example, a power up band cost $45 a piece.

Lockers

Free lockers are available for storage of personal belongings for certain rides. These are larger in size than Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure and operated by facial recognition, they are large enough for a medium sized back pack.

Accommodations & Logistics

Epic Universe is easily accessible from several Universal-area hotels. Staying on-site or nearby can save walking or driving time, and many hotels offer shuttle service to the park. The only on site hotel is the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, a Loews Hotel which offers early park entry to guests.

Hotels with Early Park Access (but no Express Pass for Epic Universe yet):

Hotels with Premier Perks

Express Pass included for the two original Universal Orlando parks, but not yet valid at Epic Universe. These are not worth the cost if you are not planning to visit Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure.

Strategically choosing a hotel near the parks can help families maximise time, rest between rides, and make early morning entry or shuttles much easier.

Practical Family Planning FAQs

Is parking close to the park?

Parking is available on‑site, it is less than a 10 minute walk to the park from the parking area. If you’re staying at nearby hotels, many offer complimentary shuttle transport directly to the park entrance.

Can families bring their own lunch?

Yes, you are welcome to bring their own lunch and cold drinks into the park in a soft cooler bag (no hard coolers). There are not designated picnic areas, but plenty of benches can be found across the park. Free lockers are available when using rides, these are face activated and larger than those at Universal Studios and Island of Adventure, you can fit a back pack without having to squash it down. Free water fountains are available across the park so no need to bring lots water or heavy bottles.

Is there a lot of walking and waiting?

Yes, there’s a lot of walking and waiting involved at Epic Universe. Because the park is large and each land is spread out, daily step counts easily climb — plan comfortable shoes and rest breaks.

Does the Universal Unlimited Express Pass work at Epic Universe?

No — the standard Universal Express Passes, including hotel-issued fast passes, does not currently work at Epic Universe. The park does offer Epic express passes booked direct for this park only, they come with a hefty price tag of £180 - 200+ per person, this is an additional cost to your park entry ticket.

Does Epic Universe provide disability access for guests?

Yes, Epic Universe offers Attraction Queue Accommodations for guests with disabilities. You can register up to 5 people in your party through Universal ahead of your visit. Once registered, use the app to select an attraction and get a return time based on the current queue. At the ride, show your code to the attendant at the express line. While there is still some waiting, it’s significantly shorter than the standard queue. This system isn’t as fast as the Express Pass, but it helps families with younger or less mobile guests enjoy the park without long waits.

Do kids prefer Epic to the main Universal Parks?

Completely depends on your family. For our kids (aged 8–10), Islands of Adventure was still their favourite, thanks to the bigger, longer roller coasters like VelociCoaster. Epic Universe is newer, highly themed, and immersive, but for thrill-seeking school-aged kids, Islands of Adventure edges it slightly.

How many days should we spend at Epic Universe with kids?

Most families can enjoy the highlights in one full day, but with no express pass you will struggle to get on all the rides. If you are more focused on rides verses the interactive experience, a second day would allow you to experience the majority of the park without being too rushed. We found our kids were comfortable with one day, the experience can be so exhausting by late afternoon they just wanted to come home and jump in the pool!
