If you're wondering whether Epic Universe is worth visiting with kids, this guide is for you.
Universal Orlando's Epic Universe is the newest theme park in Florida and the first major theme park to open in the area in more than 25 years. The park brings together five immersive worlds, including Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon: Isle of Berk, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Dark Universe and Celestial Park, creating an experience that feels very different from the existing Universal parks.
Quick answer: is Epic Universe worth visiting with kids?
Yes — for most families, absolutely. In fact, it quickly became one of our children's favourite parks during our Universal Orlando trip. The combination of interactive experiences, family rides, impressive theming and lands designed around popular characters means there's far more for younger visitors than many people expect.
We visited Epic Universe in April 2026 with our 8, 9 and 10-year-olds as part of our 14-day Universal ticket. Like many families, we arrived wondering whether the park would justify the hype and whether there would be enough attractions for children who aren't quite ready for the biggest thrill rides.
In this guide, we'll cover:
whether Epic Universe is worth visiting with kids
the best lands for families
which rides are worth prioritising
height restrictions and younger child considerations
how much time you need
what surprised us most
and whether we'd include it again on a future Universal Orlando trip

Is Epic Universe Worth Visiting With Kids?
For most families, yes — but it depends on what your children enjoy.
Epic Universe is not just another ride park. It is highly themed, interactive and built around immersive worlds. That makes it particularly good for school-aged children who enjoy characters, stories, games and exploring different lands.
For our kids, aged 8, 9 and 10, the appeal was the variety. They could move from the bright, game-like world of Super Nintendo World, into the dragons and playfulness of How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, then into the more detailed theming of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic.
That said, if your children are mainly looking for the biggest roller coasters, they may still prefer Islands of Adventure. For our family, Epic Universe was worth visiting, but Islands of Adventure still edged it as the favourite because of the bigger thrill rides.

What Are the Lands Like at Epic Universe With Kids?
Epic Universe is built around a central hub, Celestial Park, with portals leading into each themed world. This layout makes the park feel very different to Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure.
Celestial Park
Celestial Park works as the central hub and gives the park a grand, open feel. It includes attractions like Stardust Racers and the Constellation Carousel, but for families it also works as a good reset area between the more intense themed lands.
Super Nintendo World
This was one of the most child-friendly areas for us. It feels bright, interactive and instantly recognisable for kids who know Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach.
The big appeal here is that children are not just looking at the land — they can interact with it. The Power-Up Bands are an extra cost, but they turn the area into a more game-like experience where kids can collect coins, punch blocks and unlock challenges.
This is also where costs can creep up quickly. If you have more than one child, interactive bands and merchandise can add a lot to the day.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
This land is more atmospheric and detailed than playful. It is visually impressive and will appeal most to families who already enjoy Harry Potter.
For children who are not into Harry Potter, the theming may be less exciting than Nintendo or Isle of Berk, but it is still one of the most immersive parts of the park.
How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
This land worked really well for our kids. It feels colourful, accessible and full of movement, with dragon-themed attractions, play areas and character moments.
If you’re visiting Epic Universe with younger school-aged children, this is likely to be one of the most family-friendly areas.
Dark Universe
Dark Universe is more intense and spooky. It is brilliantly themed, but it may not be the best fit for younger or more sensitive children. For older children, tweens and teens, it adds variety and makes the park feel less “little kid” focused.

Epic Universe Rides and Height Restrictions With Kids
Epic Universe has a good mix of family rides, interactive attractions and bigger thrill rides, but height restrictions can make a significant difference to your day. Universal publishes official ride requirements, and it's worth checking these before you visit, particularly if you have children close to a height cut-off.
For younger children, there are still attractions they can enjoy, but the park really starts to open up once children reach around 40 inches (102 cm) tall.
Some of the main family rides include:
Yoshi's Adventure – minimum height approximately 34 inches (87 cm) when accompanied by an adult.
Mine-Cart Madness – minimum height approximately 36 inches (92 cm).
Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge – minimum height approximately 40 inches (102 cm).
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry – minimum height approximately 40 inches (102 cm).
Several of the larger thrill rides, including attractions such as Stardust Racers, require riders to be 48 inches (122 cm) or taller.
What this means in practice is that families with:
toddlers and preschoolers will find some attractions inaccessible
children aged 6–10 often hit the sweet spot where most major rides become available
older children and teenagers can experience almost everything in the park
For our family, Epic Universe worked particularly well because our children were aged 8, 9 and 10, and tall enough for most of the attractions they wanted to ride. Had we been travelling with younger children, I would have planned the day very differently and spent more time researching which lands offered the best mix of rides and interactive experiences.

Food, Drinks and Costs at Epic Universe
Food is a big part of the Epic Universe experience, especially because each land has themed menus, snacks and drinks.
You’ll find everything from themed quick-service food to character-inspired snacks and novelty drinks. For children, this adds to the fun, but it also adds to the cost.
We found food and snacks expensive, which is fairly standard for Orlando theme parks. As an example, we paid around $9.50 for one ice cream cone, so costs can add up quickly if everyone wants snacks, drinks and themed extras.
Free water fountains were available throughout the park, which helped. I’d still take refillable bottles and plan where you want to spend money rather than saying yes to every snack or souvenir.
Long-tail keywords to build in naturally:
Epic Universe food prices with kids
Epic Universe family budget
is Epic Universe expensive for families
Characters, Shops and Interactive Extras
Epic Universe is designed to encourage children to interact with the lands, not just ride attractions.
You’ll find:
character meet-and-greets
themed shops
interactive wand experiences
Power-Up Bands in Super Nintendo World
merchandise tied closely to each land
This is brilliant for children, but it is also where costs can creep up. Power-Up Bands, wands and themed souvenirs all add to the experience, but none of them are essential.
For our kids, these extras definitely made the park feel more immersive. But I’d recommend setting expectations before you go, especially if you have multiple children.

Practical Family Planning at Epic Universe
Epic Universe is a big park, and you need to plan for walking, queues and tiredness.
Parking was straightforward for us and the walk from the car park to the entrance was under 10 minutes. If you’re staying at a nearby Universal hotel, shuttle transport may also be available depending on where you stay.
We found it useful to know that families can bring food and cold drinks into the park in a soft cooler bag. There are benches around the park, but not a dedicated picnic-style setup, so keep it simple.
The lockers were also better than we expected. Free ride lockers were available and felt larger than the lockers we had used at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, which made it easier to fit a backpack without forcing everything in.
See Epic Universe tips for families visiting with kids for all our family tips to ensure you are prepared before you go.
Is There a Lot of Walking and Waiting?
Yes — expect both.
Epic Universe is spread out, and because each land is entered through a portal, you can end up covering a lot of ground. Comfortable shoes are essential.
Queues also matter. Without an Epic-specific Express option, you may struggle to do every major ride in one day, especially at busy times. During our visit, standard Universal Express access from hotels did not apply in the same way we were used to from the other Universal parks, so this is something families should check carefully before visiting.
I’d go in expecting to prioritise your must-dos rather than complete everything. This is part of why one full day can work, but two days would be more comfortable if your family wants to experience most rides without rushing.
Where Should Families Stay for Epic Universe?
Where you stay depends on how you’re structuring your Orlando trip.
If you’re visiting several Universal parks, a Universal hotel may make logistics easier. If you’re doing a longer Florida holiday with rest days, a villa may work better for space, laundry and pool time.
For us, pool downtime was essential. After a full day at Epic Universe, the kids were more than ready to swim and switch off rather than head straight back into another packed evening plan.

Who Will Enjoy Epic Universe Most?
Epic Universe works best for families with children who enjoy:
immersive themed lands
Nintendo characters
Harry Potter
dragons and fantasy worlds
interactive experiences
a mix of family rides and bigger attractions
It is probably best suited to school-aged children, tweens and teens. Younger children can still enjoy parts of the park, but height restrictions and the amount of walking may limit the day. If you’re travelling with children close to ride height restrictions, check before you go and plan your must-do attractions carefully.

Final Verdict: Is Epic Universe Worth Visiting With Kids?
Yes — Epic Universe is worth visiting with kids, especially if your family enjoys immersive theme park experiences rather than only thrill rides.
For our 8, 9 and 10-year-olds, the park offered enough variety to keep everyone engaged. Super Nintendo World and Isle of Berk were particularly strong for family appeal, while Harry Potter and Dark Universe added depth for older children and adults.
It didn’t replace Islands of Adventure as our children’s favourite park, but it absolutely earned its place in our Universal Orlando itinerary.
The key is going in with realistic expectations. Epic Universe is exciting, highly themed and memorable, but it is also expensive, tiring and queue-heavy. Plan your priorities, budget for extras and build in downtime afterwards.
For most families visiting Universal Orlando, Epic Universe is not just worth visiting — it is likely to become one of the most talked-about parts of the trip.
