When you’re planning a family ski holiday, one of the biggest decisions is:
Will the ski school actually work for my child?
Because that choice affects everything:
whether they enjoy skiing
how confident they feel on the slopes
and how your days flow as a family
This guide is for families travelling with school‑age children who want to know what La Thuile ski school is really like in practice — not just how it’s described, but how it works over a full week with kids.
Quick Answer: Is La Thuile Ski School Good for Kids?
Yes — and it’s one of the main reasons we keep coming back.
From our experience, it’s:
well organised
focused on building confidence
and genuinely suited to beginners and early intermediate skiers
Most importantly, it works in real conditions — even during busy school holiday weeks.
We’ve visited La Thuile several times with our son Joshua, experiencing ski school at different stages — from complete beginner to confident skier. We’ve also seen how it works across peak periods, which gives a realistic view of what to expect.
We’ve usually booked through Crystal Ski, which meant everything — ski school, childcare and logistics — was already coordinated, making mornings much easier to manage - See what’s included in the trip we booked

In this review, we’ll break down:
how ski school is structured
what lessons are actually like
how kids progress during the week
and whether it’s worth it for a family ski trip

Who It Works Best For (Real Family Experience)
La Thuile Ski School caters to a wide range of abilities, but where it really stands out is with families.
Joshua started at age 5, alongside his cousins, and within a couple of trips had progressed from beginner level to confidently skiing blues and then reds.
What made the difference wasn’t just the teaching — it was how:
groups were structured
lessons built gradually
and nothing felt overwhelming
It meant the kids could take their time and enjoy the process.
How the Day Actually Works
Lessons start at the bottom of the mountain near the gondola.
From there:
kids are grouped by ability
lessons run for around 3 hours
and they ski gradually higher up the mountain
At the end of lessons, if you’re using Beanie Club, the Crystal team collects the children and takes them to lunch.
If you’re not using kids club, you’ll collect them yourself — usually at the top of the gondola.
(It’s worth knowing — if you’re late, they’ll have them safely waiting inside.)

Organisation and Safety (What You Actually Notice)
From a parent point of view, this is where La Thuile stands out.
Everything runs smoothly:
clear start points
organised groups
consistent routines
Instructors are:
fully certified
experienced
and confident managing children
One thing we really noticed was how seriously they take safety.
If conditions change or visibility drops, they adjust:
smaller groups
more instructors
tighter control
As a parent, that reassurance matters — especially with younger children.

What Lessons Feel Like for Kids
The lessons are structured — but not rigid.
They’re:
focused
disciplined
and aimed at real progression
Joshua quickly learned that:
listening matters
safety comes first
and messing around isn’t really an option
But that structure is exactly what builds confidence.
Importantly:
instructors speak excellent English
communication is clear
and kids understand what’s expected
This balance of structure + encouragement really worked.
Extra Touches (The Bits Kids Remember)
A couple of small things made a big difference to the overall experience.
At the end of the week:
kids often go for hot chocolate as a group
they receive a badge and progress recognition
and there’s usually a group photo
It seems minor — but these became some of Joshua’s favourite parts of the week.
What Made It Work for Us
Looking back, it wasn’t just the ski school itself — it was how everything fit together.
Having:
lessons
location
and daily structure
already in place meant the whole week felt easier and less pressured.
Seeing how everything is set up together helps make that much clearer.

Bottom Line: Would We Recommend It?
Yes — absolutely.
La Thuile Ski School worked for us because:
it’s well organised
it builds real confidence
and it keeps things manageable for families
Joshua came away:
more confident
more capable
and actually excited to keep skiing
Which, ultimately, is exactly what you want from a family ski trip.
