If you’re looking for a Casa Chitic Brașov review from a family perspective, we found the hotel’s spacious apartments and central Old Town location worked particularly well with our 10-year-old son, Joshua.

We stayed at Casa Chitic Brașov after visiting Peleș Castle and Bran Castle during our Romania road trip. It gave us an easy base for dinner in the Old Town that evening, followed by the Black Church, local markets and the Brașov cable car the next morning.

This review is for families deciding whether Casa Chitic is worth booking, what its family accommodation is like and whether Brașov makes a good base for exploring Transylvania.

What You’ll Find in This Casa Chitic Brașov Review

Quick Answer: Is Casa Chitic Brașov Good for Families?

Yes, we’d recommend Casa Chitic for families looking for spacious accommodation in the centre of Brașov Old Town.

We stayed in one of the apartment-style rooms, which gave us a separate bedroom and living space with a sofa bed for Joshua. The location was the biggest advantage, with restaurants, historic sights and Brașov’s main Old Town area all within an easy walk.

The main drawback was parking. Casa Chitic has a very limited number of spaces that need to be arranged in advance. We couldn’t secure one and found the nearby street parking almost impossible, eventually using a paid car park around a 10-minute walk away.

Our quick verdict

  • Good for families? Yes

  • Family rooms available? Yes, including apartments and suites

  • Best feature: Central Old Town location

  • Breakfast included? Yes, with our booking

  • Good for Bran and Peleș Castle? Yes

  • Parking available? Limited and paid

  • Would we stay again? Yes, but we’d plan the parking in advance

Why We Chose Casa Chitic Brașov

Casa Chitic fitted naturally into our Romania road trip.

We’d spent the day visiting Peleș Castle and Bran Castle and wanted somewhere central where we could park the car, have dinner and explore Brașov without needing to drive again.

We had also heard that Brașov was one of Romania’s must-see towns, so we didn’t want to stay on the outskirts simply because parking would be easier.

Our plan was to:

  • Arrive after visiting Bran Castle

  • Have dinner in Brașov Old Town

  • Stay overnight in a family apartment

  • Explore the historic centre the next morning

  • Ride the Brașov cable car

  • Continue towards Sibiu around lunchtime

For that itinerary, Casa Chitic worked extremely well.

→ See our One Week Romania Family Road Trip Itinerary for how we combined Peleș Castle, Bran Castle and Brașov in one part of the trip.

Where Is Casa Chitic in Brașov?

Casa Chitic is in the historic centre of Brașov, close to Council Square, the Black Church and the Old Town’s pedestrian streets.

The official hotel site places Casa Chitic just 100 metres from the Black Church, surrounded by historic streets, cafés and traditional architecture.

There are different Casa Chitic accommodation collections and addresses, so check the exact building named on your reservation. We stayed in the apartment accommodation on Johann Gott, rather than a standard room in the other building.

This is important because the reception and room facilities may differ depending on which Casa Chitic property you book. Although they are only around a minute walk apart.

Is Casa Chitic Close to Brașov Old Town?

Yes. Casa Chitic is right in Brașov Old Town, and the location was easily the best part of our stay.

Once we had dealt with the parking, we didn’t need the car again until we left Brașov.

From the hotel, we could walk to:

  • Council Square

  • The Black Church

  • Restaurants and cafés

  • Local shops and markets

  • The pedestrianised Old Town streets

  • The route towards the Tâmpa cable car

That evening, we walked into the centre for dinner and ate outside at one of the heated restaurant terraces. Even during October, it was comfortable enough to sit outdoors and created the sort of relaxed holiday atmosphere we'd hoped to find in Brașov.

On the way back, Joshua found a local ice-cream shop still open, which naturally became another advantage of staying so centrally.

The trade-off is that a central Old Town hotel won't be completely silent. We noticed some low-level street noise from our room. It didn’t stop us sleeping, but light sleepers may prefer to request the quietest room available.

Does Casa Chitic Have Family Rooms?

Yes. Casa Chitic has apartments and suites that can work well for families, although you should check the exact layout and number of beds when booking.

The official room collection includes a two-bedroom Deluxe Apartment and a Deluxe Suite with one bedroom, a separate living room and three beds.

We chose the apartment-style accommodation because we wanted more space than we’d have in a standard hotel room.

For a family road trip, having a separate sleeping area for Joshua made the stay more comfortable and gave us somewhere to relax after a full day of driving and visiting castles.

Our Casa Chitic Family Apartment Review

We stayed in Deluxe Johann Gott Apartment 6.

The biggest benefit was the space. We had a separate bedroom, while Joshua had his own area with a sofa bed. It felt much more practical than fitting three people into one standard hotel room.

The apartment also had plenty of storage, which was particularly welcome when we were carrying several bags as part of a week-long road trip.

What We Liked About the Room

The apartment had a rustic, characterful style that worked well with the historic setting. The wooden details and more traditional appearance made it feel connected to Brașov Old Town rather than like a generic modern hotel.

We particularly liked:

  • The separate sleeping spaces

  • Plenty of room for three people

  • Useful storage

  • Comfortable pillows

  • A powerful, warm shower

  • Tea-making facilities

  • The atmospheric, rustic design

  • The central location

The room didn’t face directly onto the main street, although we could still hear some background noise from the surrounding area.

What Could Have Been Better

Several smaller details could have improved the stay.

There was a kettle and tea bags, but no coffee sachets. This wasn’t a major issue, but it seemed an odd omission when the facilities were otherwise there.

The bathroom included shower gel, but we didn’t have separate soap or body lotion. The hairdryer was also temperamental and repeatedly cut out while being used.

We found the Wi-Fi intermittent, which could be frustrating if you need to work or plan the next stage of your trip online.

The bed was also quite firm. We slept well, but guests who prefer a softer mattress may find it less comfortable.

None of these points would stop us booking again. They were relatively small issues compared with the space and excellent location, but they’re worth knowing before you arrive.

What Is Included at Casa Chitic?

Our Casa Chitic stay included:

  • Family apartment accommodation

  • Breakfast

  • Wi-Fi

  • Tea-making facilities

  • Towels and basic toiletries

  • A minibar

  • Air conditioning

  • 2pm check-in

  • 11am check-out

Parking was not included in our booking and needs separate planning. Keep reading for more details on parking.

What Is Breakfast Like at Casa Chitic Brașov?

Breakfast at Casa Chitic was adequate rather than a standout part of the stay.

There was enough choice to get us going in the morning, including:

  • Cereal

  • Toast

  • Yoghurt

  • Continental meats

  • Pastries

  • Fruit

  • Sausages

  • Eggs

  • Hash browns

I’ve had more extensive hotel breakfasts, so I wouldn’t choose Casa Chitic purely for the food. However, the mixture of hot and cold options meant we could all find something before heading out into Brașov.

I also liked the coffee from the machine. It was noticeably less strong than some of the coffee we'd encountered elsewhere on the trip, which suited me.

Having breakfast included was convenient, particularly because we wanted to explore the Old Town and reach the cable car without first looking for somewhere to eat.

Is Parking Easy at Casa Chitic Brașov?

No. Parking was the most difficult part of our stay.

Casa Chitic has a very limited number of spaces that can be reserved, but none were available when we asked the evening before our arrival.

We initially tried to find street parking near the hotel, which turned into around 40 minutes of driving through busy central streets without success.

Eventually, the hotel helped direct us to a local paid car park.

If we stayed again, we would:

  1. Drive to Casa Chitic first

  2. Drop off our luggage

  3. Continue directly to the Regina Maria car park

  4. Walk back to the hotel

The car park was around a 5–10-minute drive away, followed by roughly a 10-minute walk back to Casa Chitic. We paid approximately 3 lei per hour, which we thought was reasonable.

Street parking can be cheaper because charges stop overnight, but we didn’t think the potential saving justified the stress of circling the Old Town hoping for a space.

Some third-party hotel information still describes parking availability inconsistently, so I would contact Casa Chitic directly before arrival and treat any hotel space as limited rather than guaranteed.

Our advice: if you're driving, plan to use a public car park unless Casa Chitic confirms a reserved space for your stay.

Is Casa Chitic a Good Base for Exploring Brașov?

Yes. Casa Chitic is an excellent base for exploring central Brașov because almost everything in the Old Town is accessible on foot.

After checking in, we walked out for dinner at one of the restaurants in the historic centre. The outdoor terraces had heaters, allowing us to sit outside despite visiting in October.

The food was reasonably priced, and we could try Romanian dishes without worrying about driving back afterwards.

The next morning, we had a leisurely breakfast because the cable car didn’t open until 10:30am. We then explored the Black Church, walked through the local markets and continued towards the Tâmpa cable car.

By lunchtime, we were ready to leave Brașov and continue towards Sibiu.

That short itinerary was one of Casa Chitic’s strengths. We weren’t wasting time commuting from accommodation outside the centre or repeatedly trying to find parking near each attraction.

Is Casa Chitic a Good Base for Bran and Peleș Castle?

Brașov is a good base for visiting Bran Castle and the wider Transylvania region, particularly if you want more restaurants and sightseeing options than you’ll find in Bran itself.

We visited Peleș and Bran from Bucharest, before checking into Casa Chitic rather than using the hotel as a base for separate day trips.

That worked well because we could finish a long sightseeing day in a city with plenty of places to eat, enjoy the Old Town that evening and explore Brașov the next morning.

For families deciding between staying in Bran or Brașov, we’d choose:

  • Bran: if the castle is your only priority and you want to stay within walking distance

  • Brașov: if you want more restaurants, an attractive Old Town and additional family attractions

For us, Brașov was the stronger all-round stop.

What We Liked and Didn’t Like About Casa Chitic

Casa Chitic wasn’t perfect, but it got the things that mattered most to us right.

What We Liked

  • Excellent Brașov Old Town location

  • Spacious apartment suitable for a family

  • Separate sleeping areas

  • Plenty of storage

  • Characterful room design

  • Breakfast included

  • Easy access to restaurants and attractions

  • Good base after visiting Bran and Peleș Castle

  • Comfortable enough for a one or two-night stay

The location made our short time in Brașov feel significantly easier. Once we'd parked, we could explore without thinking about the car or arranging more transport.

What We Didn’t Like

  • Very limited hotel parking

  • Street parking was almost impossible to find

  • Intermittent Wi-Fi

  • No coffee sachets in the apartment

  • Temperamental hairdryer

  • Firm mattress

  • Some background noise from the central location

  • Basic toiletries

The parking was the only issue that caused us any real frustration. The room limitations were minor and wouldn’t stop us returning.

Who Is Casa Chitic Best For?

We think Casa Chitic works particularly well for:

  • Families wanting to stay in Brașov Old Town

  • Parents wanting apartment-style space

  • First-time visitors who want to walk to the main sights

  • Families visiting Bran Castle

  • Families combining Peleș Castle, Bran and Brașov

  • Road-trippers staying for one or two nights

  • Visitors prioritising location over hotel facilities

It may be less suitable for:

  • Families wanting a swimming pool or resort facilities (not that'll you will find this in Brasov city centre)

  • Guests who need guaranteed on-site parking (again very limited options in Basov)

  • Light sleepers wanting an entirely silent location

  • Visitors looking for extensive on-site amenities

  • Families planning a longer leisure stay around the hotel itself

Casa Chitic is best treated as a characterful and centrally located base for exploring, rather than a destination hotel.

Would We Stay at Casa Chitic Again?

Yes. We would stay at Casa Chitic again for a similar Brașov itinerary.

The apartment gave us the space we needed, breakfast made the morning straightforward and the central location allowed us to make good use of a relatively short stay.

Now that we understand the parking situation, we'd avoid wasting time searching the streets and go directly to the public car park after dropping off our bags.

For one or two nights in Brașov Old Town, we thought Casa Chitic offered a strong combination of location, character and family space.

Final Verdict: Is Casa Chitic Brașov Good for Families?

Yes. Casa Chitic is a good choice for families who want spacious accommodation in the heart of Brașov Old Town.

The apartment layout was the biggest advantage inside the hotel, while the location allowed us to walk to restaurants, historic sights and the Tâmpa cable car.

Breakfast was perfectly adequate, the room had plenty of character and we had enough space to relax after a full day visiting castles.

The parking situation was frustrating, but it became manageable once we stopped searching for a street space and used the public car park instead.

FAQs: Visiting Casa Chitic Brașov With Kids

Is Casa Chitic a Good Choice for a One-Night Stay in Brașov?

Yes. We only stayed for one night and found it worked really well. The central location meant we could have dinner in the Old Town, explore the main sights the following morning and then continue our Romania road trip without needing another night.

Is Casa Chitic Noisy at Night?

There was some background street noise during our stay, which is understandable given the central Old Town location. It didn’t disturb our sleep, but light sleepers may want to request a quieter room away from the street.

Are There Restaurants Near Casa Chitic Brașov?

Yes, this was one of the biggest advantages for us. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and bars within a few minutes' walk, so once we'd parked the car we didn't need to drive again that evening.

Can You Walk From Casa Chitic to the Brașov Cable Car?

Yes. We walked through the Old Town towards the Tâmpa cable car after breakfast, stopping at the Black Church and local markets along the way. It makes Casa Chitic a convenient base if you want to explore central Brașov on foot.
